Handwritten minutes of the meetings of the vestry for the parish of St. Michael, Barbados, for the period 1745 to 1754. The document contains 498 pages, 146 pages of content and the remaining blank. The minutes for each Vestry meeting may contain the names of persons present and the business transacted. Business conducted included: levy rates; poor relief; names and positions of vestry officers; allocation of church pews; education, including the Free School; maintenance of roads and bridges; salaries paid to Vestry officers; maintenance of the church buildings and organ; manumission payments; almshouse matters, including names of persons entering that institution; named parish pensioners and amount paid; Parish accounts; collection of rents in Bridgetown; sale Watch houses; education of poor children; alterations to old road from Fontabelle to Indian River; landing of goods on the bridge or causeway in Bridgetown and general church matters. |
