Handwritten minutes of meetings of the vestry for the parish of St. Michael, Barbados, for the period 1789 to 1805. The minute for each vestry meeting may contain the names of the persons present and the business transacted. Business conducted included: the appointment of parish officers; poor relief, including list of names; manumission payments; maintenance of church buildings; church organ and plate; allocation of church pews; parish weaving equipment given to Thomas Hallet on his request; named parish pensioners and the amounts paid; parish schools; levy rates; parish accounts; maintenance of roads and bridges; church affairs; almshouse; church plate, clock and organ; list of tax arrears; provision of seats in church for soldiers; collection of rents in Bridgetown; appointments to the Free School; levy rates; list of named apprentices and period of apprenticeship; relief to indigent house keepers; Public pumps and fire engine; contribution to war effort and donations to the parish. Pages 425-427 contains a rudimentary index. |
