Handwritten minutes of Vestry meetings for the parish of St. Michael, Barbados, beginning January 13,1678 to1743. The minutes for each meeting may include the names of the vestrymen present and their positions, as well as the business transacted. Business included: levy rates; poor relief; donations to the parish; payments to parish officers; immigration; church matters; construction of an almshouse; amputation of Augustine Kelley's leg; Owen Williams' donation; apprenticeships; parish land; highway maintenance; church plate; erection of free school in accordance with the donation from Col. Henry Drax; church organ; parish doctor; Jews; allocation of church pews; setting of rents; Free School (Harrison); repair of the bridge; pensionsand the repair of the church steeple of St. Michael's which was struck by lightning. |
